A Most Significant Insignificance

Born in a small town in Kentucky
…with frame quite lanky and frail
A backwards boy named Abraham
…would soon journey on a long trail.

 It started with self-education
…reading every book he could find
This backward boy would soon transform
…to man with astonishing mind.

 Led by common sense intellect
…this certainly set him apart
From politicians with greedy minds
…this young man also had a heart.

He chose to oppose widespread slavery
…not wavering whatever the cost
For years the nation was divided
…a war and many lives lost.

Known for his skill at oration
…a homefolk style full of ease
He garnered the public’s affection
…without hype or trying to please.

Each child knows his name from the schoolbooks
His Presidency and other events
This man who once spoke at Gettysburg
…a most significant insignificance.
